A thousand marched to say enough to deaths at work, in a demonstration that started from the Florence construction site, scene of the tragic collapse in which 5 workers lost their lives on February 16th, while three others were injured.
The initiative was organized by the coordination Every day is May Day, and involved grassroots activists and trade unions including Usb and Cobas. Also on parade were the Gkn factory collective, the 16 February Assembly, exponents of the political left and student groups. Among the banners there are also Palestinian flags.
Slogans against unrelated deaths, music from the workers’ mobilization and memory of the workers who were victims of that construction site kicked off the demonstration this morning during which the deaths in the Suviana and Luana D’Orazio power plant massacre were also remembered, young worker mother who died in a company in the Prato textile district when she was sucked into a warping machine.
The names of the five work victims in the collapse in Via Mariti were written on the fence of the construction site under seizure.[gallery(0)]
Then the procession began, heading towards the nearby Piazza Dalmazia where a public meeting was called. “In the streets to say enough to the massacre of murders at work, to precarious work, to the Jobs Act, to the procurement system, to the Bossi Fini law and to ask for the introduction of the crime of murder at work”, is the platform on which the organizers called the demonstration.
