Great numbers for the “Città di Cantù”: it started yesterday

The fifth edition of the international wheelchair tennis tournament, valid as the “Città di Cantù” trophy, organized by the Cantù Tennis Club in collaboration with Osha Como, kicked off yesterday on the courts of the municipal sports center in Corso Europa.

Twenty-three nations are represented with athletes from five continents, including Australia, Brazil, Canada, Pakistan, Morocco as well as a large European representation. There are three categories that make up the scoreboards: men’s, women’s and quads. Among these there are 33 tennis players included in the ranking of the top 100 in the world.

Guarantee of a high qualitative and spectacular level but also an intrinsic recognition in the organizational and receptive capabilities of the city club. The tournament, among the most attended on a continental level, will reach its peak with the finals scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.

As in previous editions, large public participation is expected. Our province is represented by two athletes from Osha Como: Mauro Curioni, who has set himself the goal of at least the semi-finals, and Diego Amadori. Tournament director Nicola Trincavelli who will be able to count on the help of 70 people including referees and chair judges, stringers, physiotherapists, teachers and athletes of Tennis Cantù and members of the board of directors.

In the first days of the event the involvement of the third classes of the “S.Elia” sports high school is also expected.
