The monitoring service of the municipal territory by the Local Police continues to combat the phenomenon of waste abandonment. The Agents, following the viewing of the videos acquired through the use of photo traps, managed to identify the man who, on 12 February 2024, transported and left his car in the Macchia di Rosa district, near the Ciappetta-Camaggio gully, numerous bags of waste. Once his identity was ascertained, the man was referred to the Judicial Authority for the crime of waste abandonment.
The Local Police recalls that with Law n.137/2023, which came into force on 10 October 2023, the abandonment of waste became part of the list of contravention crimes regulated by the consolidated environmental law. The law provides for a fine from €1,000.00 to €10,000.00 and an increase of up to double in the case of hazardous waste in addition to the remediation of the sites.
It is specified that for the crime to occur, the conduct must be in violation of one of the 3 rules established by law in reference to the art. 192, c.1 and 2 which prohibits the abandonment or uncontrolled storage of waste and the introduction of waste into surface and underground waters; to the art. 226, c. 2 which prohibits the introduction of certain packaging into the normal municipal waste collection circuit and art. 231, c.1 and 2 regarding the demolition of end-of-life vehicles. The checks by the Local Police will continue in the next few days.
