The Guardia di Finanza turns 250: celebrations begin

Grosseto. On Sunday 21 April, in Grosseto, opera music will resonate in an exceptional setting: the Hall of Honor of the former Palazzo Littorio, home of the Provincial Command of the Financial Police.

The initiative is part of the events planned to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the foundation and testify to the “social” role of the Corps, while also wanting to remember and honor the maestro Giacomo Puccini, on the centenary of his death.

As is known, the composer he lived for some years in Maremma, in an ancient watchtower – which today bears his name – located in the municipality of Orbetello. A few meters away from the building, there was a Brigade of the Guardia di Finanza, a small outpost with a few men employed to carry out customs surveillance services along the coast. In that period the master formed relationships of sincere respect and friendship with the military, a bond so deep that it led him to be awarded the rank of “Pinned ad Honorem” of the Financial Police.

The concertorganized in collaboration with the “A.Gi.Mus” association of Grosseto, features twelve young talents of opera music coming from the “Georg Solti Accademia”, a prestigious training institute that selects new voices from the entire international scene, offering them the possibility of growing professionally and perfecting oneself.

At a time when the Fiamme Gialle are celebrating 250 years of history, the opening to the public of the most prestigious room of the former Palazzo Littorio – a place of undisputed historical-artistic importance which, due to its military connotation, is normally closed to visitors – represents a tangible testimony of the close proximity of the Grosseto Financial Police to the local community.

The proceeds will be donated to charity: for more information and reservations you can visit the website www.ticketgate.it.
