9 out of 100 people give up on medical care

MOLISE. In 2023, approximately 9% of Molise residents had to give up medical visits or diagnostic tests due to economic problems or related to characteristics of the offer, such as long waiting lists or difficulties in reaching the places where the service is provided (Italy 7.6 %).

In 2022 the share stood at just under 6%.

This is the provisional data that emerges from the 2023 Report ‘Equitable and sustainable well-being in Italy’ (Bes) published by Istat.

The ‘photograph’ of Molise reflects what happened in Italy. On a national scale, in 2023 the share of people who had to do without care amounted to 7.6% of the entire population, an increase compared to 7% of the previous year and with 372 thousand more people we reach a quota of approximately 4.5 million citizens. “This increase – we read in the Report – can be attributed to direct and indirect consequences of the pandemic shock, such as the recovery of pending benefits deferred due to Covid-19, or the difficulty of effectively reorganizing healthcare taking into account the constraints to cover the increase in demand for services with an adequate number of professional resources and, last but not least, the inflationary push of the economic situation which has worsened the ability to access health services”.
