The hill of San Luca is worth two passes. With the “gem” of the first time in the history of the Tour de France of an arrival with a circuit repeated twice, the Grande Boucle will meet everyone in Bologna on June 30th, which will be a Sunday. Davide Cassani’s wonderful idea of bringing the Tour to the streets of Emilia-Romagna and Bologna is counting down, announcing itself as a powerful sporting event of great prestige for the city.
First some figures: 176 runners in the race, 4 thousand accompanying staff, 2,300 vehicles including trucks, flagships, minibuses, seven helicopters and three planes for radio-TV signals, 200 television networks connected and at least 60 live all over the world, 300 thousand tourists in the region for the occasion, an income statement of 120 million and great impact on the territory. Mayor Matteo Lepore beamed: “A great showcase for Bologna and the awareness of the major events of the most popular sports are a driving force for everyone else. And then the bicycle is at the center of our address, having the Tour in the city with this style is a source of great pride.”
Behind everything there is the figure of Cassani, the diplomat on a mission on behalf of the Region to get the yellow jersey caravan here: «I only did the job of a good follower like when I was racing – the champion from Solarolo defends himself today president of ATP Servizi –. But the ability of a team was decisive in convincing the organizers of the Tour and now we expect a large public presence.”
We can swear as the Giri dell’Emilia have demonstrated in recent times and the departures and arrivals of the Giro d’Italia, when the Orfanelle and the whole road towards Colle della Guardia have always been a wall of crowd, worthy of the climb the Alps and Pyrenees.
The headquarters are in Montagnola
The area between Piazza VIII Agosto and Montagnola will be the headquarters of the caravan, and with the finish line located in Via Irnerio which will await the cyclists after the two climbs towards San Luca at the end of the second stage of the 2024 Tour, Cesenatico-Bologna. Arrival is expected between 5pm and 5.30pm. Guaranteeing everything will be Stephane Boury, responsible for the Tour’s arrivals for over thirty years, who stayed for weeks in Bologna to find the best possible location for this mammoth organisation.
