Filcams Cgil on trade, tourism and tertiary sectors: more female-led sectors in the Marche but women very penalised. Lucchi: “Contractual renewals with greater gender protection”

“Over the years, contract renewals have included greater protections on gender issues, such as stringent rules on violence in the workplace or paid leave for women victims of violence. So, something is changing.” This is what Barbara Lucchi, general secretary of Filcams Cgil Marche, declared, opening the proceedings of the conference from the conference scheduled today at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona, entitled “(R)existent Women”, promoted by Filcams Cgil Marche, present, among the others, Barbara Lucchi, general secretary of Filcams Cgil Marche and Cinzia Bernardini, national Filcams secretary.

While waiting for a better future for women, the sector data in this regard is relentless.

THE DATA – Commerce, tourism and tertiary sectors: these are the most female-dominated sectors in the Marche and where the wage gaps between men and women emerge to a greater extent, conditioned by the prevalent use of part-time work for women who only partially, however , justifies this huge difference. The examples? Here they are: in general, women earn 26% less in commerce, 13.1% less in the tourism sector and 23.8% less in IT, research, services and professional firms. This is the picture that emerged from the Ires Cgil marche survey of 2022 INPS data.

EMPLOYEES AND TYPE OF CONTRACT – Commerce has 60,426 employees, i.e. 13.2% of the total private employees in the Marche region; tourism, i.e. accommodation, catering and travel agencies, records 49,775 employees. In the IT, research, business services and professional firms sectors, there are 57,176 employees. In these sectors, women are 52.6% in commerce, 60.1% in tourism and 52.2% in IT, research and business services. As regards the type of contracts, part-time employment recorded values in all three sectors that were higher than the average for private employees overall with 32.8%; the incidence of fixed-term employment is 18.3% in commerce and rises to 40.7% in tourism and information activities, research services for businesses and professional firms. The seasonal contract reaches 23.4% in tourism.

FILCAMS CGIL MARCHE ANALYSIS – The contract will save women. The Filcams secretary of the Marche reiterates: “The various contractual renewals have implemented greater protections in terms of gender regarding parenting, for equal opportunities. In the recent agreements to the Permanent Commission on Equal Opportunities, new functions are assigned to combat gender violence in the workplace and the right to a further 90 days of abstention from work is also regulated for women included in the protection programme, paid at 100%. %, which are added to those already provided for by law”. But we are only at the beginning of a long battle.
