Conte’s name has raised the bar but he is too at risk of colliding with De Laurentiis. Three are real candidates: Allegri, Pioli and Gasperini

Napoli runs a risk: whoever arrives will be considered a fallback

In recent days in Il Mattino I mentioned the name of Massimiliano Allegri as a possible Napoli coach for next year. On the other hand, I wasn’t the first, having already spoken about it several times by Enrico Fedele. Aside from the fact that I have a lot of respect for this coach, it is natural to add his name to those of Conte, Italiano, Gasperini and Pioli which are circulating vortically in variable order. In fact, it seems ridiculous that in the whirlwind of rumors accrediting one big name today, tomorrow tomorrow the other as Napoli’s coach, we would forget about someone who won six championships with two different teams. This explains my provocation.

But given this saraband of predictions, where, let’s be honest, everyone cites rumors gathered around without any certainty, there is now a risk. That whoever is ultimately chosen may appear to be a fallback. Like someone you get to because others have said no. I reiterate that I do not consider the Conte hypothesis realistic because, as I have stated several times, it would have an unsustainable impact on the company’s balance sheet. And he would be temperamentally very likely to enter into a collision course with the president. Just as I believe that Italiano does not give the guarantees of reliability that a team like Napoli cannot give up.

Therefore, in my opinion, Allegri, Gasperini and Pioli remain in the mix. Well, whichever of the three the choice were to fall on would still be an extremely positive decision. In essence, and without the usual alchemy that brings into play modules and modules, three-man defenses and thirty-three defenses, they are all professionals of the highest level. Among which it is very, very difficult to make a ranking also taking into account the particular characteristics of the Neapolitan square.

Allegri, as we have already remembered, has won a lot and this alone qualifies him. Isn’t he nice? I don’t have to go on holiday together. Gasperini led Atalanta to important performances in the league and in European cups, starting from a corporate structure that was certainly not at a top level. Isn’t he a monster of sympathy too? Well I won’t go on holiday with him either. Pioli won a championship with Milan. He sees games well from the bench. And he is not a Taliban of this type, choosing the way to arrange the team on the pitch based on the players available. Furthermore he has character qualities, which are extremely important, of great balance. And then finally a nice one. Now we just have to wait. However, if the actors on the field are those indicated, then whatever the choice will be welcome.
