The four days of national Italia Cup regattas concluded • Elbapress

The long weekend just ended featured the Club del Mare and the gulf of Marina di Campo, which hosted 355 boats of the ILCA class for the third stage of the 2024 National Italia Cup regatta. The regattas took place from Thursday to Sunday. Athletes from all over Italy competed in our waters, managing to complete seven tests for the ILCA 4 and 6 and eight tests for the ILCA 7 thanks to a wind always coming from the southern quadrants.
On the first day of the regatta, a wind oscillating between 6 and 8 knots allowed a test to be held for the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 fleets. The drop in wind then did not allow any tests to be held for the ILCA 4 who, after various attempts, were forced to return to land with no results. On the second day a slightly more intense wind blew than the previous day and this allowed three tests to be carried out for the ILCA 7 and ILCA 6 fleets and two for the ILCA 4. On Saturday the sirocco finally entered decisively, with an intensity between 12 and 17 knots and a wave formed, which allowed the smooth running of three races for each fleet, providing a great sporting spectacle. For the last day, however, the race course was characterized by residual waves and decreasing wind. Despite this, a test was still held for all fleets.
It was a wonderful experience for both the racers and the public and the organisers. The Club del Mare of Marina di Campo gave its all to organize everything as best as possible and the help provided by the members and volunteers was very important. Particular thanks go to Acqua dell’Elba, APS San Piero, Moby, Locman, Nocentini Group, Granito dell’Elba – Beneforti, Centro Grafico Elbano, Ferramenta Bellosi, Porto di Marina di Campo, Associazione la Racchetta, Misericordia di Pomonte and Chiessi, Misericordia di Rio, Guardia di Finanza of the sea, Port Authority of Portoferraio, Classe ILCA Italia and Municipality of Campo nell’Elba, which sponsored the event. And thanks to all the athletes who participated in the event, making the great sailing show possible!
