TREVISO – Ca’ dei Carraresi will become the museum of art collections held by the Cassamarca Foundation in its warehouses. A heritage of around three thousand works paintings, sculptures, craft objects, masterpieces of all kinds which encompass a historical period between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries and arrived at Ca’ Spineda over the years essentially through bequests. «But not only this – underlines the president Luigi Garofalo – Ca’ dei Carraresi is a historic building which alone deserves a ticket to be visited. But until now, a part was practically invisible for security reasons linked to large exhibitions. A situation that could not last.”

HISTORY

The president makes a very specific reference. To organize large exhibitions of works of art who have made the history of Ca’ dei Carraresi, from the spectacular ones created by Marco Goldin onwardsthe upper wing of the historic building had to undergo fundamental transformations to accommodate paintings of inestimable value. Insurance companies in fact, to cover the value of works of art taken from museums around the world and brought to Treviso, they demanded measures that were up to par. As an example, seal all possible access routes to the rooms transformed into tunnels. Under the supervision of the Superintendence, portions of the walls of great value were covered with special protective panels, however, obliterating splendid light points such as mullioned or triple lancet windows but also frescoed surfaces from view. The panels, dark to eliminate reflections that could have bothered the vision of the paintings, also made the rooms excessively dark. Garofalo has decided, here too, to change tone.

THE INTERVENTION

The input from the presidency was therefore that of clear the rooms on the second floor, the one historically dedicated to major exhibitions. The technicians are at work these days. From a room, finally illuminated, they reappeared into view valuable and characteristic frescoes in one of the most history-filled residences in the city. In the other rooms the activity is brisk. «This wing – continues the president – will become the home to the permanent exhibition of our collections. Visitors will be able to see the works already exhibited at Ca’ Spineda and then continue their visit to Ca’ dei Carraresi. Instead, we will dedicate one room to temporary exhibitions of various artists». The preparation of the “permanent” has been entrusted to two Ca’ Foscari teachers who will evaluate the three thousand pieces kept and they will decide, from time to time, the underlying theme of the exhibitions which, in rotation, will see all the best pieces emerge from the warehouses. With the dismantling of the panels, Foundation definitively closes the era of great events: «Nowadays people travel a lot – observes Garofalo – and they prefer to see paintings in museums that already host them».

THE ACTIVITIES

Meanwhile, Ca’ Spineda continues to invest in culture and publishing, direction taken at the express request of the president. «We have chosen to give space to books of great culture which, otherwise, would hardly be published», observes Garofalo. The c. was therefore bornFirmaments ollana published by Marsilio but supported by Ca’ Spineda. After the great success of Theodor Daubler’s collection of poems it will be released in a few days “The Poetry of Law” by Jacob Grimm.
