security camera and urban video

Forty cameras and other devices to strengthen security in the city, thanks to a new municipal video surveillance system supplementing the pre-existing one. This was decided by the council, on the basis of the project drawn up by the engineer Valerio Catino (responsible for the municipal data processing centre) and the direction of the municipal department for the local police.

THE NUMBERS

The project, candidate for funding as part of a tender from the Ministry of the Interior on new strategic lines for the coordinated control of the territory, is linked to the Pact for the implementation of urban security signed with the Prefecture of Barletta Andria Trani. The metric calculation prepared by the professional estimated the implementation of the interventions at just under 273,000 euros, of which 250,000 were financed with the safety decree and the remaining part co-financed by the Municipality of Trani.

OBJECTIVES AND TOOLS

The objective of the path started is «further adequate coverage of strategic and transit points – we read in the project -, as the city territory is affected by a crossing flow to and from the neighboring municipalities. Trani – continues the analysis of the municipal professional in charge – over the last twenty years has seen the growth of the phenomenon of conurbation with neighboring municipalities, bringing with it many problems of both a social and settlement nature”.

More in detail, the intervention will consist of the following works: creation of video surveillance and license plate reading sites, according to the needs reported by the municipal administration; new connectivity system via wireless network and/or fiber optic sections; relay stations for transmitting signals from the most distant cameras; operations center in the dedicated room at Palazzo di Città, complete with workstation and professional wall-mounted display monitor.

The final objective that is intended to be achieved is “to increase and improve the safety of public places – the executive acknowledges -, monitoring the presence of people in a discreet and effective manner, controlling vehicle access to the territory and, at the same time, providing daily information to citizens and tourists on all news of public interest”.

The analysis of the data relating to the license plate reading cameras also aims to carry out an in-depth analysis of vehicular traffic with the following objectives: «Better use of the city by pedestrians; greater regularity of the local public transport service; increasing road safety; smoothing of vehicular traffic; parking regulations”.

The increase in cameras aims to increase safety and the perception of safety to obtain further results: «Safeguarding the landscape-architectural value of the territory; valorisation of the entire municipality in commercial and tourist terms; opening of commercial and recreational activities; promotion of accommodation facilities that already partially exist, with better use by tourists and citizens”.
