The tree budget with the state of green consistency for the five-year period 2019-2024 was presented a few days ago by the municipal administration of Pescara, in compliance with the legal deadlines for its publication. The political-cultural association Radici in Comune compared it to the previous one, that of the five-year period 2014-2019. From the comparison, according to the association, it emerges that the two reports are in fact identical.
“Looking at the size of the trees, we discover that in the previous budget there were 24,973 trees and 770 shrubs compared to the current 25,243 trees (not to mention the 770 shrubs). By counting the most important individual species, we discover that in the first balance there are: 9268 pines, 3296 lime trees. 1960 plane trees and 2144 holm oaks. In the second budget released yesterday? Guess what? Perfectly the same numbers.
Let’s imagine the reader amazed. No mystery, further reading reveals that the consistency of the arboreal heritage is as of the date of the 2019 census. A little dated..
As regards the balance between felling and new plantations, at the bottom of the report we can read a positive balance of 2,277 trees! Yet a few lines above in the report warn that there may be critical issues in the counting: “During the data collection, critical issues were found regarding the information received from the “Public Works” and “Territorial Planning” Service due to the rotation of Management and RUPs; on the information given by the Fire Brigade and other bodies. So we understand that they were not counted:
the trees felled in via Pantini;
trees felled during public works;
the grove in Via Polveriera;
the grove on Via Raiale;
and what other trees?
Reading the report carefully we then discover that the new plantings included the 1,800 forest-type plants (those averaging 50 cm tall) planted in the buffer zone of the San Silvestro cemetery and on the slope of via Celestino.
However, of the total of 2,471 killings (those of which the green sector is aware) no additional information is given: we have no type of killing or location.
Ah no, one piece of information is given: to evaluate the actual consistency of the tree heritage, a campaign is underway, the data of which will be available from … June 2024. The true assessment is still to be done.
As regards the sudden increase in parks and green surfaces, in comparing the two reports we realize that the new parks that enter the count are: Villa Sabucchi, Parco de Riseis, Parco 8 Marzo, bus terminal green area and others such as the urban gardens on via Santina Campana”.
