“Il Malloppo” arrives in Cerignola with learned, Massironi and Santoro

The Apulian tour of Gianfelice Learnato, Marina Massironi and Valerio Santoro continues with the show Il malloppo, a sensationally successful 1960s text that launched its young author Joe Orton as the new star of the English theater scene. Since then it has enjoyed success in London’s West End and on Broadway where it was also played by Alec Baldwin and Kevin Bacon.

After Bitonto and Fasano, the show will be staged on 16 April 2024 at the Raffaele Lembo Theater in Canosa di Puglia (9.00 pm), on 17 April 2024 at the Verdi Theater in San Severo (9.00 pm – before the show, at 7.00 pm, in the foyer of the theatre, the company meets the public), on 18 April 2024 at the Teatro Comunale “Giovanni Laterza” in Putignano (9.00 pm), on 21 April 2024 at the Teatro Roma in Cerignola (9.00 pm). As part of the theater seasons of the Municipalities organized in collaboration with the Teatro Pubblico Pugliese.

The Swag, by Joe Orton, directed by Francesco Saponaro, is a fast-paced comedy, a ferocious satire, an irreverent and little-represented text which we hope to make known and appreciated also by the Italian public.

Two inexperienced thieves decide to rob the bank next to the funeral home where they work, but are forced to hide the stolen goods in the coffin of one of them’s recently deceased mother. So between thefts, murders, love intrigues and investigations, a daring series of hilarious and absurd situations typical of British black humor begins. Il Malloppo is in fact one of the most famous and entertaining examples of black comedy – the English are masters of it – in which the cornerstones of bourgeois society are attacked with irony and cynicism: the police, marriage, the cult of death.
