MACERATED Making railway stations an added value to the social fabric by exploiting their widespread presence throughout the country to convert them into multi-service centers for citizens and local communities. This is the goal of “Local stations”, a project promoted by the companies of the FS Group and aimed at railway yards in municipalities with fewer than 15 thousand inhabitants. Two of these stations are in the province of Macerata out of the twenty selected at a national level: these are the Urbisaglia-Sforzacosta and Matelica airports.

The details

The project was illustrated at the headquarters of the FS Group in Rome by the vice-president of the Council and minister of infrastructure and transport Matteo Salvini, by the commissioner for reconstruction Guido Castelli, by the general secretary of Anci Veronica Nicotra and by the top management of Ferrovie dello Stato. «The “Territory Stations” project is part of the process of rebirth and regeneration of the central Apennines devastated by the earthquake, which is increasingly establishing itself as a laboratory in which sustainable solutions are adopted aimed at promoting development and countering the depopulation process – said Guido Castelli -. Rethinking the spaces and functions of railway stations is an intelligent and effective way to reweave a web of life and relationships that would risk being worn out. Medical clinics, pharmacies, workstations, intermodality services: these buildings will become real hubs of the area, usable by local communities and travellers”.

The maintenance

Work was completed at the Urbisaglia-Sforzacosta station where the maintenance of the passenger building was carried out, including the complete renovation of the facade and the restoration of the roof and covering. By will of the municipal administration, the leasing of the building to the Civil Protection was kept active. In the area outside the building, there is a former warehouse owned by RFI which, following technical checks, will be handed over to the territory to become an access area to the new station; a car park and an underpass will be built. At the Matelica station in the passenger building, the atrium has already been redeveloped, where workstations with electrical sockets will soon be created to allow you to recharge electronic devices, and the rooms that will house a medical clinic. Work is underway on a second clinic, adjacent to the first and on the former premises managed by the Pro Loco, used as warehouses, and which will be handed over to the Municipality for the neighborhood committees. In the external square, the reorganization works of the parking spaces and the installation of a shelter with photovoltaic coverage will be carried out.
