Ceremonies were held today, April 16, to commemorate the 36th anniversary of the assassination of Senator Roberto Ruffilli in Forlì. On 16 April 1988 – a few days after the birth of the new government presided over by De Mita, which Ruffilli had helped to create with his commitment in Parliament in the ranks of the DC – the BR assassinated Roberto Ruffilli. As soon as he returned to his home in Forlì after a conference, Ruffilli was surprised by members of the Red Brigades Stefano Minguzzi and Franco Grilli, who disguised as postmen rang the doorbell of his home with the excuse of delivering him a package; having entered the house, they led him into the living room, made him kneel next to the sofa and killed him.

On May 7, his will was found. Half of his savings went to the Catholic University of Milan, where he graduated, so that scholarships could be established for young researchers in the field of historical and religious sciences, and half to his parish. His papers and his books went to the then soon-to-be-established Faculty of Political Sciences of the University of Bologna, Forlì branch, and are preserved in the Roberto Ruffilli Central Library.

The killers were tracked down, arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.

Forlì remembered him with a mass at 8.15 in the Church of S. Antonio Abate, in Corso Diaz 105. Then there was the homage of the Authorities to the Crown in Corso Diaz 116, which was followed by the ceremony for the new location of the bust bronze statue of Sen. Prof. Roberto Ruffilli, the work of the sculptor Augusto Neri at the Teaching Hub of the Forlì Campus in Viale Corridoni 20.
