REGGIO EMILIA – The Emilia-Romagna Regional Council is against the closure or merger of the Crime Prevention Department of the Reggio Police Headquarters. She said it and put it in writing the undersecretary to the presidency of the Region, Davide Baruffi, responding to a question from the Reggio Emilia councilor Stefania Bondavallialso signed by my colleague Andrea Costa. The alarm it had been launched in recent days by trade union police workers Siulp, after a meeting with the police chief Vittorio Pisani. At that time one had been hypothesized reorganization which also includes the closure of one of the two Crime Prevention Departments in our region, the one called “Western Emilia”, which is based in Reggio. The other, based in Bologna, would continue to operate.
The Work carried out by the Crime Prevention Department of Reggio, says the Region, “is extremely useful and particularly appreciated in the provinces of Reggio, Modena, Parma and Piacenza”. The Council therefore he shares the concerns expressed by SIULP and councilor Bondavalli and “intends to express to the Ministry of the Interior its firm opposition to any hypothesis of suppression, downsizing or merging of the Department”.
There are around fifty police officers involved: these are agents specialized in territorial control, with operational and support functions to the other departments of the Reggio, Parma, Piacenza and Modena police stations and that of Mantua. Stefania Bondavalli was satisfied with the response: “From the Emilia-Romagna Region – she comments – a very clear message arrives to those who speak of safety as a dogma, but who then, for reasons of rationalization of public spending, think of removing qualified personnel engaged in protection of citizens”.
The provincial secretary of Siulp Aldo Aragiusto thinks the same way, reiterating: “Closing the Reggio Emilia Crime Prevention Department is a mistake. Weakening control of the territory is equivalent to weakening investigative activity and consequently strengthening petty crime, mafias, drug dealing and all illicit activities.”
