Palermo, the all-round wingers are back

Today’s edition of “Il Giornale di Sicilia” focuses on Palermo’s exteriors.

Last season it was one of the moves that, despite the daring missed play-offs, had brought about a turning point in Palermo’s game; now, even though there are only a few games remaining at the end of the championship, the hope is that with the adoption of full-back full-backs the squad can achieve that objective which was not achieved a year ago.

The first signs, against Sampdoria and Cosenza, were encouraging, but we need continuity of performance and effectiveness over the ninety minutes from all the players in the role. Last year the most constant and dangerous in that position was Valente, perpetual motion both on the right and on the left: with his transfer to Padova, Palermo no longer has a profile at its disposal capable of churning out one cross behind the other nor of playing with the same danger on both flanks, but Mignani’s imprint is starting to be seen and the San Vito-Marulla goal comes with a combination from outside to outside.

If in the defensive phase the uncertainties have not yet been ironed out, in the offensive phase Lund is becoming more and more explosive as the months pass: after the goals against Ternana and Pisa, on Saturday the assist arrived for Buttaro after a sprint on the wing (second seasonal assist after the one for Mancuso against Spezia). The American’s cross crossed the entire penalty area, finding his teammate at the far post who with a nice movement surprised Frabotta and bagged the 1-0: for the coach it is confirmation that situations can be created from the new scheme interesting in attack, scoring goals even without the strength of the two strikers
