The bilateral tertiary body of Ragusa informs companies and workers in the Iblea area that the Guarantor for the protection of personal data has stated that it is not possible to use facial recognition to check the presence of workers. At the moment, the current legislation does not allow the processing of employees’ biometric data for the purposes of detecting their presence on duty. Furthermore, from the inspection activity of the Guarantor, it emerged that the companies that had used this biometric detection system had not adopted adequate technical and security measures, had not provided clear and detailed information to workers, nor had they carried out the assessment of impact foreseen by the privacy legislation.
“The Guarantor also highlights – underlined by the EBT Ragusa board of directors chaired by Gregorio Lenzo – that companies should have more appropriately used less invasive systems to control the presence of their employees and collaborators in the workplace (such as, for example, the badge)”.
