The ‘Dovi’ returns home. Now the rehabilitation

“Professor Giuseppe Porcellini and his team fixed the fracture of the clavicle with the insertion of a plate and reconstructed the acromioclavicular ligament. It was a long operation, but a perfectly successful one.” Postcards from Sassuolo, or rather from Sassuolo Hospital. Sender Andrea Dovizioso, from Forlimpopoli, one of the legends of MotoGP, former Honda and Ducati rider who was the victim of an accident last week while training on the Terranuova Bracciolini cross track, in the province of Arezzo. Fractured collarbone and various bruises for ‘Dovi’, who after the first tests carried out at Careggi in Florence landed in Sassuolo, where he was operated on by the ‘shoulder magician’, Giuseppe Porcellini, from Forlì, one of the greatest surgical experts in the shoulder and upper limbs (among his patients in the past also Vasco Rossi and Valentino Rossi), director of the specialization school of orthopedics at the University of Modena and Reggio, and head of orthopedics and traumatology at the Sassuolo hospital (which had already operated in the past his countryman).

Dovizioso kept his many fans informed via social media, always appearing in good spirits (“this time I did it well, my collection of fractures is becoming more and more consistent”, he wrote immediately after the accident). Dovizioso left the Sassuolo hospital yesterday, not without thanking the many who have followed his events in recent days (including Jovanotti: “If you need a piece of collarbone, I have some left over…”) and, he wrote, “How many helped me and the medical staff.” And not without greeting the many who, he added “are making me feel their support. It’s a precious energy”. For Dovizioso, the rehabilitation which he will carry out in his native Forlì, at the Fisiology Center, now begins. “Motorcyclists – Professor Porcellini told ‘Carlino’ a week ago – have a very high pain threshold, and are supported by a fierce determination when it comes to getting back on the saddle.” Dovizioso is already ready to tackle this new rehabilitation: “The road ahead – wrote ‘Dovi’ – will be tough, but things are either done well or not done”.
