Descriptive text here

The 9 simulacra of Vallisa parade through the streets of the old city of Bari on Good Friday dedicated to the Passion of Christ. The procession started at 9am from the church of San Gaetano and then crossed the city, accompanied by faithful and the band singing funeral marches. In procession the 9 statues: Jesus in the Garden, Saint Peter, Jesus at the column, Jesus with the cane, Jesus carrying the cross, Saint John, Calvary with Magdalene at his feet, dead Jesus, Our Lady of Sorrows. There are 8 simulacra of the Vallisa, popularly called “the chiangiaminue”.

The dualism with the bearers of San Gregorio is ancient (who will return to the streets next year). Not just symbols but a rite that renews the meaning of the Passion and death of Jesus. The procession crossed the ancient village and then made a stop in the cathedral of San Sabino at 1pm and set off again, after 2 hours, from Piazza Odegitria to retrace the main streets of the city and return to the Cathedral itself at 11pm. Like every year, the rite of the mysteries is well attended. Many faithful but also curious people followed, respecting tradition.
