The funeral of Antonio D’Acci, the train driver who died on the Pescara – Sulmona train three days ago, will be held on Monday, Easter Monday.

Antonio D’Acci was a train driver with forty years of experience. When he felt ill, he stopped the train from running in the open countryside, in the territory of Alan, in order to save all 87 passengers who were on board the convoy. Immediately helped by the train conductor and the on-board staff, he unfortunately died immediately after feeling ill. The 118 operators, although they intervened promptly, were unable to resuscitate him, and were only able to declare his death.

Antonio D’Acci, known as Tonino, was 61 years old. The train driver was on the threshold of retirement, on the day of the tragedy he was working on the Pescara – Rome line when he felt ill. As soon as he realized that he was losing consciousness, he immediately stopped the train in order to save all the passengers on board. The illness struck him down, and unfortunately there was nothing that could be done. He never regained consciousness and died soon after, amid the pain of his colleagues who tried to help him.
