The railway line from Brescia to Sebino reopens

Commuters and tourists from Alto Sebino are keeping their fingers crossed: tomorrow the Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway line will reopen entirely, which, from 1 December 2021 to today, has been interrupted for more or less long periods at various points. The last accident that prevented trains from circulating regularly between the stations of Pisogne and Marone occurred on September 21st: Marco Frassi, a truck driver from Pisogne, lost control of his truck while traveling along the provincial road 510, broke through the side barriers and fell towards the lake, running over the railway until reaching the Vello Toline cycle/pedestrian path, where he was engaged. a company from Bergamo in asphalting works. Since that day, Ferrovienord has been busy restoring the railway retaining wall between the «Vaccarezzo» tunnel and the «Santa Barbara» tunnel in the Marone area; Today the restoration work will be completed, then the tracks will be safe again to guarantee the regular transit of all Trenord trains.

851 days have passed since trains last ran normally between Brescia and Edolo: 30 November 2021. The following day a landslide risked derailing a train in Cedegolo: here, to build a new rockfall tunnel, the works had continued until September last year and were concluded precisely in the days in which the railway was interrupted in Marone . In the meantime, other accidents had affected various points of the line, forcing Trenord to set up replacement bus connections. In July 2022 the flooding of the Niardo torrents had torn up the tracks, in December 2022 a train had risked derailing at the Iseo station, finally in September 2023 the accident in Marone had cost the life of the truck driver from Pisogne.

A new era

From Saturday 30 March we will turn the page and return to a normal situation: «Finally – highlights the regional councilor for Transport and sustainable mobility, Franco Lucente – we are restoring an important route for the Brescia area, strengthening it with new hourly trips. A service awaited by travelers in the area, after years of critical issues and inconveniences, which will certainly also bring benefits from a tourist and attractive point of view, allowing you to reach places of undisputed beauty in our Lombardy with greater comfort and punctuality.” Trenord has in fact decided to upgrade the Breno-Edolo route where, from tomorrow, a total of 28 trains will arrive, with connections every hour between the Upper Camonica Valley and the city of Brescia.
