The hiker AF, 53 years old from Viterbo, suffered a heart attack on March 8, was discharged from Mazzini in excellent condition. The entire phase that took place from the arrival by air ambulance to the Teramo hospital was also decisive
The man, without any significant cardiological history, had a fulminant myocardial infarction on the morning of March 8 at the arrival of the Campo Imperatore cable car, which began with cardiac arrest. Promptly helped by those present and in particular by two female doctors who were also there to ski, who began cardiac massage and used the semi-automatic defibrillator present in the station to manage the repeated cardiac arrests, he was then transported by helicopter to Mazzini. Resuscitation continued on board with the Lucas automatic external cardiac massage device which performs 100 chest compressions per minute with high efficiency.
At the Teramo emergency room he was intubated and the diagnosis of extensive anterolateral infarction was made. In the hospital he had another cardiac arrest, but the blood circulation was maintained thanks to the masseur Lucas who was active during the transport to the Hemodynamics department on the second batch. In the Uoc, directed by Franco De Remigis, Dr. Francesco Paparoni with the Hemodynamics team and the assistance of Cardiac Surgical Resuscitation successfully performed the primary angioplasty with disobstruction of the anterior descending artery, thromboaspiration and implantation of a drug-eluting stent . An aortic counterpulsator was also placed to facilitate recovery from cardiogenic shock. In this phase, the patient spontaneously woke up after more than an hour and a half of resuscitation maneuvers. AF was then assisted for a few days in cardiac resuscitation directed by Marco Cargoni and then in the Utic. Last Tuesday he was able to return home with an almost complete recovery of his cardiac, respiratory and neurological function. Now he can tell the story of his rescue due to the perfect functioning of the rescue chain from Gran Sasso to Mazzini.
