“Live streaming of the Modica City Council, where are we at?”.
This is the question posed by the citizen coordinator of South Call North, Giovanni Cavallo, to the Municipal Administration.
“It is a fundamental principle for the democratic life of a municipality. It guarantees transparency – underlines Cavallo – and it would be desirable if many more people regularly followed what happens in the assemblies where important decisions for the life of a community are made.
In recent years, also due to the pandemic, the concepts of “open doors” and “free access to the public” have changed a lot.
Today the “public character” can no longer be limited to the physical presence of the people who assist. Family and work commitments do not allow you to be present when most of the city council meetings take place. However, many people would be equally interested in following the proceedings and would do so remotely if a live streaming broadcast was available.
Some municipalities already provide it, others like Modica still do not.
The city coordination of the South calls the North and asks the Prime Minister and the Mayor what stage the work has reached to establish the resumption of the sessions.
“Live streaming the city council sessions – concludes Cavallo – is one of the simplest and most effective forms of applying the principles of transparency towards the community, which citizens cannot help but appreciate, obtaining more effective communication between the Palace and citizens.
Furthermore, the coordinator of South calls North concludes, The municipal councils are now almost deserted, so the streaming service can only bring together, especially young people, accustomed to the daily use of technology”.
