On the eve of Torino-Monza, a match valid for the 30th matchday of Serie A, Brianza coach Raffaele Palladino presented the challenge in front of journalists in the usual pre-match press conference. Below are his words.
How has Monza worked these days? “We are experiencing this period with enthusiasm and positive energy, we must enjoy this moment. We are in a wonderful context in which all the boys are involved with great motivation. We have resumed training really well. We chatted in the locker room, the group is motivated for the final rush. We are all united to give our best in these last matches”
Mota Carvalho and Valentin Carboni were called up to the national team, what credit do you give for having put them in a position to do so well as a former striker? “I have no merit for the various call-ups, I don’t want to pretend to be humble. The only merit is having believed in these players. In the first part of the season the attackers were criticized a bit but we managed to respond with work. Now the qualities of the individuals also come out. Now we’re waiting for the first goal from Djuric, from Colombo who continues to grow… I’m very happy with what we’re doing, but I don’t feel any merit, the credit goes to the boys. I’m very sorry for Vignato , I still believe he can give us a hand in the season finale, He’s recovering but isn’t training with the team yet, it’s a shame we didn’t have him during the season because he was demonstrating his great talent.”
The way the match is presented in Turin, it seems like it is the Champions League final and yes tomorrow the fate of the Turin and Monza championships will be entirely decided… What do you expect and how do you take the compliments you are receiving? “I haven’t read who knows what news, I’m focused on the performance we have to give tomorrow, but I know that these nine matches are very important, many direct clashes and tomorrow is one of them. The Granata are the fourth best defense in the Italian championship and are trained well. Last year Toro finished tenth, therefore ahead of us; this year they are one point behind us but they want to aim for higher ranking positions after major investments. It won’t be a Champions League final, but a football match to be faced in a tough, decisive way. Tomorrow the public will be the extra man for Torin, we will need to have great personality and go with a knife between our teeth. Compliments are always very nice, sometimes we don’t realize the path we are on. Maybe in ten years we will say that this Monza has done something extraordinary. I hope that this club will always go higher but what has been done in these two years will remain forever, it is unforgettable.”
What can you do to counter Torino? “I know Juric very well, I was also with him in the team as a footballer. Particularly good at making you play badly. They are difficult matches against Torino, intense, matches of duels and a lot of intensity. We play borderline, with half a mistake we go into advantage or disadvantage. We must pay attention to details, be concrete and have personality. We will play it to the best of our ability, lightly and without pressure, even with cheek.”

And was the relationship with Juric affected by the controversy of the latest matches between Monza and Turin?: “Absolutely nothing has changed with Juric, there is a great relationship, we often talk to him and his staff. I love him, if I do this job today it is also thanks to him, he instilled in me the ambition to become a coach. Both in Genoa and Crotone he involved me in technical-tactical situations. I have to thank him, he was a master for me. Galliani always believed in me from the Under 11 days up to the Primavera, he always said that he liked me as a coach and that I would be the future of this club. I don’t think he tripped anyone. I am grateful to this company every day for what they have given me“
Is there a possibility of seeing Caprari again in the next two months? Should Papu Gomez’s career be considered over? “My hope was to have Papu, his career deserved, at least this year, a different ending to what it was. I hope to see him on the pitch again, I don’t know if here or elsewhere. As for Caprari, he is still out, we will know news in a few weeks: he will have a check-up, if he gets the OK we will let him back”
How much will Bondo’s absence weigh? Could we review Akpa Akpro at this point? “Regarding the absence of Bondo, who is disqualified, I say that Akpa Akpro, Pessina and Gagliardini can replace him perfectly. We have three solutions. The rotations say we can play it any way, we’re calm. Today we will try the countermoves for Torino”
With Taurus, details will be important… How important is the analysis work you do with the staff? “I come here to show off, but during the week my staff works a lot from 8 in the morning to 8 at night, we study a lot. Football is constantly evolving. Sunday is the fruit of the weekly work but the important thing is that the team has a clear identity“.
