Sinistra Futura – Cagliari local elections: “no unrealizable promises, we will present ourselves to the voters with a concrete program that provides answers to citizens’ problems”

Cagliari, 28 March 2024 – Sinistra Futura will present itself at the administrative elections in Cagliari with its own list of candidates and a program that is already quite clear: no unrealizable promises, but concrete proposals to provide answers to the real needs of citizens. In fact, on 8 and 9 June the residents of the island’s capital are called to elect the mayor and city council. Sinistra Futura, strengthened by the recent excellent result of the regional elections of 25 February, does not want to miss the appointment with the polls and, for this reason, organized a meeting with members and supporters last night to give a first clear outline of the political work to be achieve, obviously before the meeting with the rest of the coalition.

Future Left – Cagliari local elections: “no unrealizable promises”

The numbers

In the city of Cagliari – in the regional elections – the Sinistra Futura list obtained 4.5% of the votes due to the ten thousand voters who chose it (out of a regional total of 24 thousand votes). “An extremely satisfactory result which authorizes the objective of gaining at least 5% in the next municipal elections – declared Andrea Dettori in the introductory report. We were the surprise, a fact that is also recognized by the competitors. Furthermore, the interest in what happened in Sardinia with SF has extended to nine other Italian regions and the first contacts with Sicily have already taken place”.

THESinistra Futura’s political program for Cagliari

No unrealizable proposals: the objective is to have a profound impact on improving the quality of life of citizens with credible and original proposals, which transform the city from the formal capital of Sardinia to a real point of reference and interaction. This will be possible to achieve if synergies and collaborations are built with the Municipalities of the Metropolitan Area, involving them and making them co-protagonists. Cagliari must also become the “City of Peace”.

How Sinistra Futura will present itself to the Cagliari electorate

Few points on the program but which bring solutions to the major problems that afflict those who frequent the city on a daily basis.

*Healthcare. Building, in agreement with the Region, a new way of assisting patients, creating local healthcare which has progressively disappeared in recent years, centralizing everything in hospitals. Assistance that should concern both city neighborhoods and all municipalities in the Metropolitan Area.

*Counteracting growing poverty. It is one of the main points of the program that SF has very close to its heart, after a careful observation of what is happening not only in the suburbs, but also in many of the historic neighborhoods in which immigrants and off-campus students are mainly concentrated.

*Mobility and traffic. It is necessary to keep account of the enormous difficulties that have been created by the simultaneous opening of a huge number of construction sites. A careful evaluation of the works to be carried out and concluded, those still to be carried out, and the related critical issues that will need to be managed so as not to totally congest the city and neighboring municipalities will be needed.

*Waste collection and city cleaning. Cagliari turned out to be a dirty city with terrible air quality, with the same percentage of fine particles as industrialized cities in northern Italy. It is urgent to revise the waste collection system and the route of the compactor vehicles, to be rethought at times that do not further impact the already chaotic city traffic.

*Young children, students. For them, we need to completely rethink the spaces within the city: they must all be able to benefit from adequate school buildings that include not only welcoming canteens and classrooms, but also spaces for artistic and sporting activities even after the canonical lesson times. We must allow the thousands of university students who study at the University of Cagliari to have adequate spaces, student houses in sufficient numbers, without once again having to resort to new barracks.

*Inclusion and participation. Invite young generations to take an interest in their city and to participate and share ideas to implement policies to improve their current living conditions. Include immigrants who are part of the active and economic life of Cagliari and its hinterland.

*Urban planning. There are many abandoned buildings that could be redeveloped and used for students, associations and so on. All this would make it possible to avoid resorting to new constructions which would have an absolutely harmful environmental impact, as well as creating new costs.

*Cultural activities. Cagliari suffers enormously from the lack of adequate spaces in which to carry out cultural activities, a particularly serious condition for a city that has a great artistic and archaeological heritage. Just think of the conditions of the Roman Amphitheatre, the Villa of Tigellio, or the necropolis of Tuvixeddu. One of the ideas is to create a single ticket valid for various cultural initiatives.

*Planting. Plan the revitalization of the city’s green areas by also creating new ones, planting thousands of trees from the center to the outskirts.

The Cagliari that Sinistra Futura proposes to create will also be promoted in the world with the spectacular nature of its landscape beauty and its formidable stratification and sedimentation of history and culture like few other cities in Italy.
