A session of the transparency commission was needed to clarify the expenses incurred by the municipal administration for the candidacy of Latin he Italian Capital of Culture 2026 “Bonum facere“, which ultimately did not end well.
«It was a duty – explains President Coletta – to take stock of the resources committed by the Municipality in the candidacy project, to provide councilors and citizens with answers and maximum transparency. Precisely with this objective the topic was addressed with the relevant councilor Annalisa Muzio, with a manager and a person responsible for the procedure. However, it was not possible to obtain all the clarifications requested and it will be necessary to address the issue again in another commission.”
The documentation
The president had in fact requested all the documentation produced relating to the project of Latina’s candidacy as Capital of Italian Culture 2026, “including all the reporting of expenses incurred by the administration in all phases of planning and presentation”.
Part of the requested documentation, resolutions and decisions published on the noticeboard, was made available to the commissioners via email while another part, relating to the presentation of the candidacy and the drafting of the dossier, was provided only yesterday morning during the sitting.
64 thousand euros spent
«From the analysis of the documents received from the commissioners – explains Floriana Coletta – some elements are still missing and in general a detailed accounting of the expenses incurred by the administration».
From initial estimates, the candidacy cost 64 thousand euros, including the preparation of the dossier and the collateral events to support the candidacy itself.
«The absence of a reference culture councilor has made the necessary work of connecting the resources involved more complex and it will be my responsibility as president to convene another commission on the same topic to analyze the missing data», concludes Floriana Coletta.
L’Aquila Capital of Culture
In the end the Ministry of Culture and the judging commission chose L’Aquila as the 2026 capital of culture among the 16 candidates
