PALERMO – Palermo and Catania are among the cities most sought after by tourists in view of Easter and are among the first destinations reached by travellers. These are the data published by Jetcost which has drawn up the ranking of the top twenty-five European cities searched for by travellers, and the two Sicilian cities are ranked sixth for the Etna city and fourteenth for the Sicilian capital.

The data is confirmed for arrivals at airports. Palermo airportbetween March 29 and April 2, will have around 122 thousand passengers, with a growth of 2% compared to last year, while international flights will grow by 5%.

Record numbers for airports

Very positive numbers also for the Catania and Comiso airports where 232 thousand passengers are expected, of which 143 thousand national and 89 thousand international, with a growth of 3.96%. Arrivals are certainly favored by the climate of the island, but also by the possibility of visiting numerous cultural sites.

Accommodation facilities, many sold out

Reservations in hotel facilities also grew of the island which record numerous sold outs. “THE numbersaccording to forecasts, they are excellent and better than last year – explains Nico Torrisi president of Federalberghi Sicilia and CEO of Sac which manages the Catania and Comiso airports -. This is also thanks to the numbers that the airports of Palermo and Catania are producing, which are growing and it goes without saying that the trend is identical for accommodation facilities. Tourism is experiencing excellent health.”

The president of Federalberghi knows that the Easter “movement” can act as a driving force for the summer season that is upon us: “Even for the summer, compared to last year, the trend is already growing. The sector is in an excellent state of health” which must continue to grow and to do so “we must have staff development at heart – concludes Torrisi – because the service is provided by people. It goes without saying that we must also invest in structures.”
