FLORENCE – Young administrators in Tuscan municipalities make up 34% of the total: a figure in line with the national average, which however those under 36 would like to become even more incisive and decisive.

Because, as emerged from the Regional Assembly of Anci Giovani Toscana, the presence of young people in local authorities “can be a positive point for the regeneration of politics, so that citizens can once again have trust in the institutions and can look to the future with enthusiasm and concreteness”, said the mayor of Ponsacco and coordinator of Anci Giovani Toscana Francesca Brogi, who opened the proceedings.

“The work we have done in recent years has been challenging and stimulating – he added – and has had difficult moments such as the pandemic; but we have always continued to maintain relationships and contacts, building an important network. And we also achieved a great result, in collaboration with the Region: the creation of the Alessia Ballini Foundation for political and institutional training, a school for training regional and municipal councillors, councilors and mayors. A concrete response to the expressed needs of young administrators, who need support and skills to best carry out their tasks”.

For his part, Luca Baroncini, mayor of Montecatini Terme and national coordinator of Anci Giovani, focused on the need for generational change but without conflicts based on age, the important thing, he said, is that there is equal access, that the barriers that too often lead under 36s to give up on pursuing a path in politics and institutions fall.
