He did not pay 175 fines, the municipal police of Florence confiscated his SUV

For years he never bothered to pay the fines he received. Dozens and dozens of infringements which were regularly notified to him by the Municipality of Florence and which accumulated until there were 175 of them. Reports which ranged from the ban on parking in limited traffic zones or in pedestrian areas to transit in preferential lanes, from speeding to parking on the sidewalk or at intersections. The motorist was tracked down by the Municipal Police who confiscated his car, an SUV, which was seized due to the unpaid debt.

This is a 60-year-old Florentine who in over 10 years has accumulated a debt with the Municipality of almost 30,000 euros for 175 fines to which must be added the sums foreseen for non-payment and all the costs of the various injunction orders. In reality there were some payments over the years however partial for a few tens of euros and as the cars in the man’s possession changed, the debt grew as the number of unpaid infringements increased.

Until the collection process went through the entire expected process and, at the end of all attempts to collect the amount due, last November the Tax Office seized the car by recording the provision on the vehicle’s ownership certificate after having notified it, without any response, to the person concerned.

Two days ago a patrol from the Municipal Department of Rifredi stopped a car in Viale Redi for an inspection and from checks on the various databases the foreclosure order emerged. The driver was then invited with his car, a latest generation SUV, to the department offices: here he was charged with a fine for having driven in a confiscated vehicle (1,984 euros). The SUV was then taken to the municipal administration warehouse.
