Vis Pesaro Stellone and Perugia, a long challenge

Roberto Stellone and Perugia, a long history. Grifo is the team most faced by the current Vis Pesaro coach: there are ten previous matches between the coach and Perugia which Vis will host at the “Benelli” on Sunday at 8.45pm. The balance sheet is in total balance with four wins, four defeats and two draws. The most important success of the Umbrians against the Roman coach now in Pesaro is certainly that of 4 May 2014, the one which gave Camplone’s team promotion to Serie B. Then, almost as if it were revenge, Stellone scored four consecutive triumphs, the following year in Serie B again at the helm of Frosinone (both at home and away) and then on the benches of Bari and Palermo. But the recent past is once again tinged with red and white on the Umbrian side with Perugia’s successes, in the 2020-2021 season against Stellone’s Arezzo (3-0) and in the 2021-2022 championship against Reggina.

Since Easter, Stellone has been the new coach of Vis Pesaro. He will have the task of reviving the Marche team that has slipped into a dark tunnel. “I made this decision together with my staff – explained Stellone – driven by several reasons. The director’s call was convincing in terms of the project, I rejected some proposals in B a couple of months ago and also other calls in C precisely because the projects didn’t excite me. In the last seven years I’ve always taken over, this time I wasn’t interested in taking over for a month and end, I was looking for a more wide-ranging discussion.”

The last. Vis will not have Tonucci, whose calf problem will probably cost him another few weeks out and who could return for any playouts, and De Vries. Yesterday morning session in Pian di Massiano for Perugi. Paz, Iannoni and Vulikic, absent on Wednesday because they were busy with a session in the pool, returned to the group, fully recovered. He, however, still remained in the Mezzoni box: only today will the defender’s condition and his availability for the match under the spotlight be clearer. Sylla, the former player on duty, has also returned to the group, having been rested on Wednesday due to a slight fever. Lewis is also on the pitch but as regards his use, Formisano reserves the right to decide only on the eve of the match, making it easier to hypothesize a return to Arezzo. With Mezzoni in doubt and Lewis presumably out, in Pesaro it could be Dell’Orco’s turn from the first minute: the center back is fully recovered and it is everyone’s intention to recover him in view of the season finale.
