He stabs his wife and kills her: Nigerian arrested

A new case of feminicide in the Bergamo area. A 49-year-old woman of Nigerian origins was killed by her 45-year-old partner (they were not married as previously written, ed.), in Cologno al Serio, in via Donizetti, inside a courtyard house. It happened in the early afternoon of Friday 28 March, around 2.30pm.

The man, of Nigerian nationality like the woman, stabbed her with a kitchen knife, mortally wounding her: numerous blows inflicted.

The reasons for the terrible gesture are still unknown, it seems that the two were arguing over problems related to the rent of the house: at the time of the tragedy the two were alone in the apartment, a studio apartment on the top floor of the building. Help was in vain, it is likely that the neighbors called them. The woman died due to wounds inflicted by her husband, who apparently had mental problems: the man was arrested shortly afterwards by the Treviglio police. The Carabinieri forensic team and the local police also arrived on site.

The police are specifically investigating the motive for the crime, which occurred at the height of an argument that broke out after lunch. The couple apparently lived there for four years, without children. The arrested man was taken to prison on charges of voluntary homicide. Several neighbors were interviewed by the police. One of these said he saw the woman crying on Tuesday morning.

The mayor: «Every day must continue to be a time for reaction»

The mayor of Cologno, Chiara Drago, spoke on the terrible news story: «They are not tragedies, they are not tragedies of jealousy, they are not arguments that ended badly, they are not inevitable outcomes of the prevailing psychological distress that one struggles to read and face in the our society – he wrote on Facebook -. They are feminicides: every day they happen in our country, there is a war bulletin, we write down the names so as not to forget them, we remember our sisters, friends, acquaintances, fellow villagers, not without a sigh for still being alive, not without the sense of guilt for still be alive. Today it happened again in Cologno al Serio, in our community.”

«We are overwhelmed by a pain that is ancestral and that is written inside us, in our destinies. We must continue to work to change things. The road is long and in moments like this it seems that every small step taken is insignificant; it seems that the work on ourselves, the awareness built with difficulty, the intertwining of relationships, the relationships of sisterhood, the alliances with men count for very little. Today we mourn one of our fellow citizens and it is the time of mourning, the time of pain, anger and reflection. Every day must continue to be a time for reaction, a time for new words, for different relationships. Because care, discomfort and resignation in the face of other people’s problems do not always have to be absorbed by women. Because we can think of ourselves as fulfilled and alive, whole and in a thousand pieces, alive »she commented in her online post.
