Fiumicino – From Juniors to the first team for the last two championship matches.
The debut of Francesco Cerci, who took over after the resignation of Massimiliano Castagnari, represents the most interesting news a few hours before the kick-off of the penultimate matchday for FC Viterbo.
For the yellow-blues this is the last away match of 2023-2024, to be played on the Aranova pitch which has already achieved direct salvation in a mathematical way and just like the Viterbo team has nothing more to ask of the season.
Castagnari’s farewell came after last Sunday’s spectacular draw against W3 Maccarese: the match ended 3-3 after FC Viterbo was 3-0 up until the 72nd minute. The league leaders’ comeback probably caused a rift between the former coach and the club with the former deciding to spontaneously leave his position.
In his place, therefore, comes Cerci who has been promoted and has accepted the new temporary assignment without problems which will lead him to face first Aranova and then Pescatori Ostia.
“I was welcomed very well, with great availability and professionalism on the part of the guys – declared the new coach yesterday –. Even though we are only 15 days away from the end of the season, I found the team morale high and the motivation tangible, even though there are only two games left. Being here at this moment is for me recognition for the work done with the Juniores, a sort of reward. Although the situation does not affect the championship standings, it is still a very interesting experience and I am grateful to FC Viterbo for giving me this opportunity. For me it represents a real honor“.
In Fiumicino the kick-off is at 11am under the direction of Marco Ventrone of Roma 1, assisted by Simona De Magistris and Leonardo Degli Abbati both of Roma 1. In the first leg the match ended 0-0.
