A tulip field to help children suffering from leukemia

A field of tulips where the flowers form the tree of life was created in Sant’Andrea di Barberana byVilla Rosa Agricultural Company.

From 20 March 2024 the field is open to the public, customers can access it and collect them personally and their contribution will help finance theItalian Association against Leukemia (AIL) and help sick children.

She was the one who told us about this initiative Laura Coletto:

“This is the second year in which we have self-harvested tulips,” Laura tells us on the phone.

Last year the field had taken the shape of a multicolored sun and the proceeds allowed the creation of an outdoor class for a child suffering from leukemia.

“The initiatives in support of AIL began in October 2022. We immediately expressed our desire to support a solidarity journey to help a classmate of my daughter who needed to attend lessons in an outdoor classroom, which in that moment wasn’t present in their school”, explains Laura.

“We asked ourselves how we could help him and we activated a series of community initiatives, including self-harvesting tulips in spring. With what we collected we were able to create the classroom for this child“.

The good response to the initiative has encouraged the owners of the company to continue their journey and propose it again this year.

“We haven’t yet decided which project to donate this year’s proceeds to – continues Laura – but we intend to support the pediatric department of Treviso“.

The tree of life and the memory of sister Michela

This year the field was created in the shape of a tree of life. It took about a week of work to build the campas Laura Coletto explained to us:

“Everything was done by hand from the design to the planting. For about a week 5 or 6 people worked tirelessly with a lot of patience and good will.”

This year too the camp is dedicated to her sister Michela, who passed away in 2020 due to cancer.

“There is a magical place in Sant’Andrea di Barbarana, a field of tulips of many colours, all different from each other, all with different shades, but all with a pure soul and are all to be collected.
It is the tulip field in memory of our sister Michela. The tulip is the flower of love, and Michela gave a lot of love, doing what made her feel better, giving to those who were most in difficulty.
For us then this must be the meaning, remembering Michela. Come and pick our tulips. The flower will wither, but next year it will be reborn again and so on every year. As long as you take care of it, its memory will never die“, we read on their Facebook page.

The camp can be visited every day

The camp is located in Sant’Andrea di Barbarana, in via Manzoni 3.

From 20 March 2024 it is open every day from 9am to 12pm and from 3pm to 6pmas can be read on the company’s Facebook page.

“We are happy to inform you that the tulip field will finally open to the public on Wednesday 20 March 2024. We look forward to seeing you every day, including Sunday, at the following times 09:00 – 12:00 and from 15:00 to 19:00.

Upon your arrival you will find everything you need collect our beloved tulips independentlythen we’ll take care of the packaging.”

This year, however, due to bad weather, some problems are being encountered. Yesterday, March 27, 2024, for example, the field was closed due to rain.

“Fortunately for now there has been no damage – says Laura – but if the disturbance does not cease the flower could suffer. The bulbs come from Holland and last year they showed us that they can resist flowering for over a month , but the climate was different. We hope that it will be like that this year too.”
