The Cucinelli era begins in Gubbio, official: here is a small Solomeo

It was last January 11th when Umbria 24 anticipated Cucinelli’s ‘new big coup’ with the acquisition of ‘Sartoria Eugubina’ after that of Penne in Abruzzo. Today comes the official confirmation of the company that puts the seal on the new era of Cucinelli in Gubbio and of the most prestigious Gubbio factory in the Solomeo fashion house.

The specificities of this sartorial history of Gubbio enter into a planning of the new era of Cucinelli which protects and preserves the best Italian manufacturing considering it as the most important value and the greatest challenge that future times will reserve. Cucinelli wants to continue creating garments to leave as a legacy, for the quality, prestige and value they maintain over time and can only preserve the artisan skill that these historic factories have preserved over time

Approximately 70 skilled workers of the highest level of “Italian tailoring” are part of this reality, and will continue their noble work in the name of artisanal excellence.

From Solomeo to Penne and now to Gubbio, the “beautiful factory” designed by Brunello Cucinelli speaks of the future and, in the meantime, enhances the present while remaining open to research and innovation.

«That of the small but important “Sartoria Eugubina” – said Brunello Cucinelli – is a noble story, made up of genuine craftsmanship that has been able to earn a well-deserved esteem. I like to remember the precious work of those who have looked after it until today and we are very happy with this acquisition, which for us is an enrichment in terms of truly special human resources. The whole world looks at our Italy with profound esteem and we believe that our artefacts tell in a sincere and very special way what our way of working is, the extreme care we put in valorising the skilled hands of our esteemed artisans. Now also in Gubbio we will build a small factory with a splendid view of the panorama of the medieval citadel, where it is possible to work in harmony with creation. I am very confident in the value of beautiful, well-made garments made in Italy that can be left as a legacy. Perhaps in times to come the theme will be: not to whom we will sell these special garments, but rather which skilled hands will create these little masterpieces.”

In short, a small Solomeo is about to be born in Gubbio, a factory that the company is designing in full respect of the concept of the beautiful factory that Cucinelli is carrying forward and from which many draw an example for the benefits that are reflected in the well-being of those who work and therefore on the value of the product as well as the brand. It will be close to the medieval village city, with large windows so that the external environment, the panorama but also nature and light can belong moment by moment to those who are at work with beauty.

The acquisition was greeted with profound satisfaction by the mayor of Gubbio Filippo Mario Stirati. The mayor of the city of candles spoke of a “very happy end to a story that started more than eight years ago, which saw us as an active part, or rather, I would like to say, indispensable interlocutors, in a phase in which the company had essentially arrived at the end of the line.”

Stirati recalled the day in which «the employees and workers arrived under the windows of Palazzo Pretorio, desperate for an end that was essentially sealed, and my phone call to Rudy Severini, woken up in the middle of the night in Latin America, because history of that important manufacturing reality did not end.” Cucinelli’s arrival in Gubbio is «a fact of extraordinary value, not only economic but also cultural». A path that today leads to building «an economic, working and cultural future in the name of beauty and Made in Italy: we imagine a high-profile clothing hub and training courses that guarantee workers with expert hands also for the next generations» .
