We are working in all quadrants of the city with a specific plan dedicated to street trees with important interventions such as, for example, those carried out in via dei Gracchi, viale Marconi, via di Villa Chigi, via di Sacco Pastore, via Tigrè, viale Leonardo Da Vinci, via Faleria, via Albertoni and via De Carolis».

The recent collapses

In Piazza San Marco, on 13 July 2023, a pine tree measuring approximately 25 meters of about 80 years old which also involved two cypresses. The analyzes carried out had highlighted that the root system had been attacked by a cariogenic fungus and that it was further compromised due to the pavement renovation work probably dating back to the Jubilee of 2000.

The following July 20, 2023, another collapse affected a pine tree in front of the Roman Insula, which was also affected by the cariogenic fungus at the roots. Immediately after the collapses, tensile tests were carried out on the pine trees present throughout the entire area, including the initial area of ​​Via dei Fori imperiali, which led to the felling of three pine trees and a cypress in Piazza San Marco, of the remaining one in in front of the Insula and the pine tree at the beginning of the climb Via delle Tre Pile.
In the area in front of the Insula no new replantings will be carried out due to the lack of adequate space to guarantee the growth and stability of new pines and for the construction works on Metro C.

4,500 trees have already been planted

This intervention is part of the overall plan to plant, within the year, approximately 10 thousand street trees. As of early 2024 they are beyond that 4,500 street trees have already been planted using, among other essences, privet, lime trees, flowering pears, plums, magnolias, holm oaks, ash trees, sophore trees, orange trees, maples and jacarandas. Procurement also provides at least 25 interventions of irrigation per year, the restoration or replacement of any damaged supports and ties, the control of the verticality of the essence, the fertigation at the end of the maintenance year, the replacement of plants that have not taken root or have dried up during the two years of maintenance required by contract.
