The volume, as well as telling the story of the life of the ship Andrea Doriapresents the results obtained during the underwater expedition Un flap di Patria which saw the author of the book as protagonist and which last July left from Genoa towards New York and from there towards the Atlantic Ocean.

The international mission, coordinated by Phy Diving Equipment, had set itself the aim of documenting the state of conservation of the wreck of the famous turboship launched in the Ansaldo Shipyards of Genoa Sestri Ponente in 1951. The expedition was sponsored by the Municipality’s Sports Department of Genoa and the Ansaldo Foundation.
The book retraces the events of the famous and luxurious flagship, which sank during its 100th voyage from Genoa to New York on 26 July 1956, not only with words but also through a very rich repertoire of images and archive documents, some of which have never been published, which tell different background stories of that night in Nantucket, the American trial and the human events between the crew, VIPs and passengers on board the Italian transatlantic.

The volume aims to show the famous transatlantic under a new guise. In recent years, the author has returned to visit the wreck several times on various underwater expeditions and he also spent a lot of time at the Ansaldo Foundation with the aim of collecting information and materials that would allow him to draw an unprecedented profile of one of the most beautiful but also controversial Italian ships.
During the presentation, for the first time ever, images of the dive carried out on the bow of the M/S Stockholm which lies a few miles away from the Andrea Doria will also be shown.
Andrea Murdock Alpini will thus tell an unpublished story of the elegant lady of the sea, rescued from the dust of time through underwater photographs and films that testify to the current state of conservation of the wreck on the ocean floor.
“The Andrea Doria as tall as a fortress, as vast as a city” will thus be able to relive, in the pages of this book, the glories of the past while looking to the future of a new world.
