Good Friday procession, the “tité” played in the oldest version
Descriptive text here
The bass music, at two pre-established points of the procession, will perform the so-called ‘tité’ according to the oldest version known today and which came down to us through a copy made by Vincenzo Avellis in 1935, as attested by Msgr. Giovanni Capursi in one of his copies now kept in the Capursi Fund of the Library of the Episcopal Seminary of Molfetta («motif transcribed by Vincenzo Avellis in 1935»).

It is likely that Avellis’ transcription, which Capursi speaks of, is the one kept in the Library of the Municipality of Molfetta. Furthermore, it is conceivable that those poignant and evocative notes of the ‘tité’ were composed by an anonymous composer from Molfetta working at the beginning of the nineteenth century and in any case before 1836, since it seems possible to identify the Titè with the poetic description that Giacinto made of it Poli in “A procession of Good Friday”, printed in Naples in 1851 and referring to Good Friday of 1836.

On the occasion of the Good Friday Procession 2024, in via Roma ang.via Carlo Alberto and in Corso Margherita di Savoia (alt. Cappellina de Candia) the ‘tité’ will be performed by Bassa Musica in the ancient version just mentioned . Regarding this precious historical-cultural contribution, the entire Archconfraternity is grateful to its brother Giovanni Antonio del Vescovo and to Maestro Gaetano Magarelli.
