MODICA – New glimmer of hope for the reopening of the Modica Court closed 12 years ago as a result of the spending review maneuver, which resulted in the suppression of minor courts throughout Italy. In recent days, theSicilian regional assembly has, in fact, approved the bill, containing the amendment to Legislative Decree no. 155 of 7 September 2012 with consequent reorganization of the ordinary courts and public prosecutor’s offices.

The Region requests the reopening of the courts of Modica, Nicosia and Mistretta

There bill approved by the Ars will now be presented to the national Parliament to begin the process which should lead to the reopening of the Court of Modica, but also those of Nicosia and Mistretta, also penalized by a reform that created problems for justice and for users, in the name of economic savings which did not have the desired effects, indeed, for Modica, what is even more serious and absurd, the relative closure of the brand new premises built for this purpose with a huge investment.

The lawyer is optimistic. Enzo Galazzo, president of the Pro Tribunal Committee of Modica who expresses himself thus. “It will be a new Court, that of Val di Noto, a glimmer of hope opens up for the fate of the Court of Modica, in the sense that a possible reopening could be close”.

On the positive legislative outcome the regional deputy of the M5S, Stefania Campo, interveneswho declares: “We have long supported the need to reopen the Modica Court, in fact, we are faced with a great waste because on the one hand the buildings of the former Court have remained almost unused and, on the other, because its closure has only produced a worsening of the overall service”.

“Now – continues Campo – with the Voting Law of which we are co-signatories together with other political forces, we are urging the national Parliament to deal with the new judicial geographyreinstating the suppressed offices of Modica, Mistretta and Nicosia.

“We expect the current regional majority, given the political affinity with the national centre-right, not to stop at a vote in the Chamber, but to interact with Minister Nordio, so that he ensures the reopening of the courts suppressed in Sicily by the technical government of Mario Monti”, he adds.

“Finally after so many years – is the comment of the rapporteur of the law, Hon. Ignazio Abbate – we can realize the work carried out by the Pro Tribunal Committee of Modica which had the great merit of keeping a flame lit on its rebirth. It is good to specify, continues Abbate, that officially it would be a new court and not what was the old Court of Modica”.
