Peer mediation, the students of ISIS Bernocchi bring their expertise to the Calvino Institute in Milan
Legnano – As part of the “Instead of judging” project, in collaboration with the Risorsa Cittadino cooperative, theIstituto Bernocchi of Legnano has established a twinning with the Calvino lower secondary school of Milanwhere some students brought mediation as a conflict resolution practice.
The path that led to the collaboration between ISIS Bernocchi and the project has just ended “Instead of judging”and the Calvino Institute of Milan, with the project “Start again with us”aimed at lower secondary school students.
Students trained in mediation as a method of conflict resolution met with younger colleagues in their classes, offering an example of the action that a mediator carries out between two parties involved in a dispute.
The students were accompanied by Dr. Gianfranco Selvagiotrainer of Risorsa Cittadino, an accredited body that spreads the culture of mediation in high schools through the “Instead of judging” project.
In the context of activities related to mediation, the twinning of Bernocchi with Calvino of Milan was born, which activated the educational project this year “Start again with us”, aimed at promoting conscious use of digital tools and combating the phenomena of addiction, cyberbullying and isolation associated with them.
The Bernocchinis intervened in the process on the occasion of a series of meetings – conducted in the presence of Luana Catanzaro and Domenico Pontieri, specialists in family mediation – during which the children of the third classes were able to discuss conflicts that arose between them with the help of the older companions.
Bernocchi students were also satisfied, for whom working alongside professional trainers in an educational path aimed at younger people represented an exciting challenge. “Mediation is an exciting activity – comment Patrick Schulz and Hamza Zehouani, the fifth graders -. “Being a mediator allows you to train relationship management skills that are important for both work and life personal.”
