It won’t be just any Saturday, June 29th. In Rome, Saint Peter and Paul, the patron saints of the city, are celebrated. So the Capital comes alive with events for everyone, while transport and traffic are subject to some changes. Here’s everything you need to know.

The Vicariate’s initiatives

The initiatives for the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, patron saints of Rome, promoted by the Vicariates of the diocese of Rome and the Vatican City, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture and the Municipality of Rome and with Panathlon International. A prayer vigil will be held on Friday 28th in St. Peter’s Basilica at 9 pm.

The path-event

On Saturday 29th, “Quo Vadis” is scheduled, a walk-event that touches on the historical stages of the presence of the two apostles in the City, from San Sebastiano fuori le Mura to Santa Prisca, from the Mamertine Prison to Santa Maria in Via Lata. There are two routes, one longer and the other shorter, at the end of which you will receive a “pietruzza”, a small stone symbolizing the journey completed. The cobblestone, evoked in the logo of “Quo Vadis”, connects Peter, Rome and its streets. It is an opportunity offered to citizens, tourists, families, and the faithful to rediscover or visit for the first time many places, including the Colosseum Archaeological Park, whose visit, exclusively for participants, is free, churches and treasures of art and history.

The show at San Pietro

Also on Sunday 30th, a show is scheduled in the atrium of St. Peter’s Basilica. It is scheduled to start at 9:00 p.m. It is called “Peter and Paul in Rome”, a theatrical performance by and with Michele La Ginestra, on stage as Peter with Augusto Fornari in the role of Paul. The direction is by Roberto Marafante and the music by Emanuele Friello.

The historical reenactment of Michelangelo’s Girandola

In the area in front of Castel Sant’Angelo, the fireworks display called “Historical Reenactment of Michelangelo’s Girandola” will take place. From around 7:30 p.m., the Lungotevere between Ponte Vittorio Emanuele ll and Ponte Umberto will be closed to traffic. Also from 7:30 p.m., lines 23 – 280 – n3D will be diverted. Buses will travel along Corso Vittorio Emanuele lI, Corso Rinascimento, Via Zanardelli and Lungotevere Marzio, skipping two stops in total.

Party in Ostia

In Ostia, on June 29, “Un mare diVino” returns, an event now in its sixth edition that aims to promote the winemaking excellence of Lazio and Italy. The event will continue until the next day, in Piazza Anco Marzio. It includes tastings of white, rosé and sparkling wines and a program full of events, including show cooking with chefs and DJ sets with music under the stars. Access is free and the tasting kit costs 15 euros.

Transport and roads

The Capitoline public transport network will follow the holiday timetable, despite it being Saturday. On the occasion of the initiatives at the Basilica of San Paolo, bus lines 23, 769 and 792 will be modified from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 June, including the night buses nMB and nME. Via Ostiense will be closed to traffic between viale Giustiniano Imperatore and via Giulio Rocco. Via dei Fori Imperiali, however, will be pedestrianized on both the 29th and 30th. The subways

On Fridays and Saturdays, the A, B, B1 and C metro lines follow the extended timetable, with the last runs from the termini at 1:30 am. The A metro line also has an extended timetable. The evening work that is affecting the line is, in fact, suspended on Fridays and Saturdays.
