Clerici underwent emergency surgery. “I’m fine, bye ovaries”

Antonella Clerici underwent emergency surgery in Rome. The TV presenter herself tells it in a post on social media in a message in which she attaches a photo of herself from the bed of the clinic where she is hospitalized. “As always I want to be honest with you – she writes – and tell you what happened to me so that this can remind everyone of the importance of prevention. Last Thursday I arrived in Rome with the idea of staying close to a friend and going to Naples at the Gigi D’Alessio concert. My gynecologist reminds me that I have to check for an ovarian cyst. From there a tsunami starts. Hello ovaries. The presenter thanks all the doctors and nurses who treated and assisted her and the friends who were close to her. And she closes: “Now a little convalescence… see you soon.”

The operation to which Clerici was subjected “is simple, minimally invasive because it is done laparoscopically (with very small incisions), of a fairly short duration and without any aesthetic or functional problems in menopause. The removal of the two ovaries, in the presence of a cyst that presents anomalies, it is the right indication according to the guidelines, the definitive diagnosis can only be given by histological examination”, explains Vito Trojano, president of the Italian Society of Gynecology and Obstetrics (Sigo). “There is certainly a need to talk more about prevention and illness. Even today, faced with an oncological or other type of disease, there are people who hide their problem even within their family, there is shame or a false idea of protection. This is why Antonella Clerici’s choice to talk about her experience is positive”, says oncologist Adriana Bonifacino, president of the IncontraDonna Foundation.
