The latter’s participation in the event has raised quite a bit of controversy.
THE CASE
The 20-year-old pop star had presented a song entitled October Rain, but was forced to change both the title (now Hurricane) and some verses, interpreted as references to the Hamas attack on October 7th. The reason? The Eurovision regulations are clear: the songs competing must not contain explicit references to politics, religion or controversial topics. On Sunday, the singer was the big absentee from the traditional parade on the Turquoise Carpet: she was taking part in a memorial for the victims of the Holocaust. One thousand Swedish musicians signed a petition urging organizers to exclude Israel. «I came here to make my voice heard and share the gift that God gave me, to unite people through music», she defends herself.
A controversy was also raised by the Irish Bambie Thug, who on Tuesday won a place in the final with Doomsday Blue (his performance, with a reference to the star of Satan, wearing Luciferian horns, did not go unnoticed at all): he criticized the organizers of the competition for the request to change an element of his stage makeup containing a message considered pro-Palestinian, a writing in Ogham characters – ancient Irish alphabet – translatable as “ceasefire and freedom”. In Malmö there is maximum alert due to the pro-Palestinian protests already announced. The climate, not exactly festive, also caused Amadeus’ son Josè Sebastiani to miss the trip to Sweden. He should have created a Radioimmaginaria podcast for RaiPlay Sound in the Eurovision headquarters: «Not being able to go to Malmö is a shame but it is the best choice, safety comes first – says Josè – even being in Italy will be like being there ».
THE PERFORMANCE
Angelina will perform out of competition this evening, already qualified by right for the final on Saturday 11th: for her performance she has enlisted none other than Mecnun Giasar, a German choreographer who has already worked alongside Madonna and Bts. He sings under a rain of fireworks, very similar to that of Maneskin in 2021. Who knows if it’s not a good omen.
