Released in Italian cinemas on 18 April 2024, the biopic “Back to Black” chronicles the rise of Amy Winehouse, from her earliest years as a singer in London clubs to her great international success. But the film is not only focused on her career, but also on some of the most painful events of her private life, such as the suffering from the separation of her parents, the difficult challenge against eating disorders and excesses, the meeting with her husband Blake and their troubled history. The film “Back to Black” was shot almost entirely in London, in the places that have represented a lot for Amy Winehouse. Born and raised in the British capital, it is here that she took her first steps in the world of music, soon achieving incredible success. One of her main locations is the house located at number 30 Camden Squarean apartment in the London neighborhood of Camden Town where Amy lived for many years – and where she was found dead on 23 July 2011. The exteriors of the house and the entire street were used to recreate the environment in which the artist spent most of his life.

Not very far from her home, Amy Winehouse loved to take refuge in Primrose Hill to immerse yourself in nature and enjoy a beautiful view of the city of London. The park is a truly bucolic place, which especially in spring and summer saw the singer spend peaceful hours together with her boyfriend (and later husband) Blake. The photograph of her that immortalizes her together with the man during a romantic picnic is famous. We still stay in Camden Town, where the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club. It is a famous nightclub, where patrons can enjoy jazz and blues performances.

On the Ronnie Scott stage, many great artists have performed – among them Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone and Oscar Peterson. Amy Winehouse started singing right here, and the director Sam Taylor Johnson he got to see her for the first time during one of her shows in the club. Among the other locations in the film, Fitzroy Square stands out: the square is located in Camden and has seen many great personalities pass by, including the writers George Bernard Shaw and Virginia Woolf, who both lived at number 29. Some scenes were then filmed at it London Zoo. Finally, the interiors had the Metropolis Studios in Chiswick as a backdrop.
