Green homes, what are the scheduled deadlines — idealista/news

There green homes directive, published in the Official Journal of the EU on 8 May 2024, entered into force on 28 May. While waiting to find out what the outcome of the European elections will be and consequently what policies will be pursued towards theEnergy performance of buildings directive (Epbd), whether action will be taken to reopen the issue or not, let’s see what the deadlines are currently expected.

According to what is currently established by the so-called green homes directiveMember States have time to implement the provision 24 months. During this time, each country will have to work to prepare its own building renovation plan which has as its objective zero emissions by 2050 and which foresees i mandatory steps established by the directive. The building renovation plan must be approved by 2026 and must be updated every five years. But what are these mandatory steps? Let’s discover them together.

All deadlines related to the green homes directive

  • From 1 January 2025 Financial incentives for the installation of fossil fuel-fired boilers will end.

  • By December 31, 2026 each Member State will have to prepare and approve its own building renovation plan.

  • From 31 December 2026 the obligation to install solar systems on all new public and non-residential buildings with a surface area exceeding 250 square meters will be triggered.

  • From 31 December 2027 the obligation to install solar systems on all existing public buildings with a surface area exceeding 2,000 square meters will begin.

  • From 31 December 2027 there will be an obligation to install solar systems on existing non-residential buildings with an area exceeding 500 square meters in the event of significant renovation.

  • From 1 January 2027 there will be an obligation to install at least one charging point for electric vehicles for every 10 parking spaces for non-residential buildings with more than 20 parking spaces.

  • From 31 December 2028 the obligation to install solar systems on existing public buildings with a surface area greater than 750 square meters will begin.

  • From 31 December 2028 there will be an obligation to install solar systems on all new residential buildings.

  • From 1 January 2028 new buildings owned by public bodies must be zero-emission.

  • From 31 December 2029 the obligation to install solar systems on existing public buildings with a surface area exceeding 250 square meters will be triggered.

  • From 31 December 2029 the obligation to install solar systems on the new covered car parks adjacent to the buildings will begin.

  • From 1 January 2030 all new buildings will have to be zero-emission.

  • From 31 December 2030 a reduction in the average primary energy consumption of residential buildings of 16% will have to be achieved.

  • From 31 December 2033 the obligation to renovate the 26% of non-residential buildings with the worst energy performance will be triggered.

  • From 31 December 2035 it will be necessary to achieve a reduction in the average energy consumption of residential buildings of 20-22%.

  • From 31 December 2040 the complete elimination of fossil fuel boilers will begin.

  • From 1 January 2050 the objective of having a decarbonised and highly energy efficient building stock will have to be achieved.
