World Earth Day, or Earth Day, is celebrated on April 22nd each year and represents a unique opportunity to reflect on our planet and the actions necessary to safeguard it. This day, born from the need to promote environmental awareness and responsibility at a global level, has transformed into an annual event in which they organize various eventseven in Italian cities.
The history and meaning of World Earth Day
Born on April 22, 1970 on the initiative of US Senator Gaylord Nelson, Earth Day aims to raise public awareness on the issues of eco-sustainability and environmental protection. The first proposal to establish a day dedicated to the planet was formulated in 1969 by an activist during a UNESCO conference in California.
In 1970, however, further 20 million Americans demonstrated in defense of ecology, uniting the front of all those who fought against pollution. From the university context, therefore, the ecological theme also expanded to the level of public opinion, to the point of being recognized as a worldwide event which – every year – involves 193 countries.
Main events and initiatives in Italy
In Italy, the celebration of World Earth Day is manifested through a series of significant events which awaken collective interest and promote active commitment to environmental protection.
In addition to academic events, themed conferences and seminars, there are also larger demonstrations, such as benefit concerts or themed debates. This year too, therefore, April 22nd will be a day of reflection that will affect various Italian cities.
Turin
In the city of Turin, the events dedicated to World Health Day Earth are really many. The most interesting appointment will be the one in Piazza Castello where, from 10am to midnight, there will be concerts, workshops, debates and there will be stands promoting sustainable food. The event will also involve the Museums and Royal Gardens, among the most famous things to see in Turin.
Furthermore, again in the city of Mole, the Planet Week. From 20 to 28 April there will be several preparatory meetings for the G7 Climate, Environment and Energy, which will take place at the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale.

Over 600 events will be held at the Pincio, the Galoppatoio and the Casa del Cinema.

Milan
