Some members of the Democratic Party have denounced the presence of No Vax and Covid deniers in the lists of Brothers of Italy running in the next European elections. The reference, in particular, is to Sergio Berlato, outgoing MEP and candidate in the North East constituency, known in the news for his theories on the pandemic. On May 1st, among other things, he spoke and moderated an event entitled: “After the great scam of Covid 19: we demand truth and justice”. The Dems therefore accused Giorgia Meloni’s party of putting virus deniers on the list.
“I think of the sick in the South, of the patients’ families, of the journeys of hope to the hospitals of the North because in the South public healthcare is in shambles and I discover that the party of the head of government, Giorgia Meloni, Fratelli d’Italia cuts the funds for public health and is a No Vax candidate in the European elections“, commented Sandro Ruotolo, member of the national secretariat of the Democratic Party and re-nominated for the European elections. “They put a Covid denier on the list, after the Prime Minister. We are on the side of science and support public health because health is a universal right“, concluded the journalist.
Marina Sereni, head of Health and Healthcare of the dem Secretariat, added: “Fratelli d’Italia is running No Vax in the European elections and cuts funding for public healthcare. We should all have learned a lesson from the pandemic: politics cannot do without science and Italy cannot do without the National Health Service, which is universal and free for everyone. Instead, in a year and a half of government, Giorgia Meloni’s only two initiatives on healthcare were denying women’s rights, sending anti-abortion associations to clinics, and putting Covid deniers on the list“.

Berlato, originally from Vicenza, is a candidate in the North-East constituency immediately after Giorgia Meloni, head of the list across the country. At the last electoral round he had brought almost 20 thousand preferences to the party.
