Monica Bellucci, soon to be 60, fresh from a tour for the show “Maria Callas: Letters and Memories”, told Repubblica how she considers her cosmopolitan life.

In September Monica Bellucci will accomplish 60 yearsand celebrates them with one ever richer life: stable career, international fame, two daughters (Deva And Léoniereceived from Vincent Cassel in 2004 and 2010), an ongoing relationship with the director Tim Burtonwho wanted it in the new Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, in cinemas from 6 September. Repubblica asked her questions about her life, but above all about hers existence spent between Italy and abroad, especially France. Does Monica really feel like a citizen of the world?

Monica Bellucci: “I don’t belong to any country”

Suggested by the theatrical show that she toured from 2019 to 2023, “Maria Callas: Letters and memoirs“, where she told the story of the soprano’s life Maria Callas (1923-1977), Monica Bellucci he feels he has something in common with her: “Don’t belong to any country. […] I know this feeling well: I’m Italian but I live in Paris, when I live in France I remain a foreignerand if I return to Italy something distant resurfaces.” A distant echo which however he viscerally needs: “Not having roots makes me feel freer, sometimes lost. In the end, to give birth to my daughters, Deva and Léonie, I did like the turtles: I returned to my place of origin.”
Monica, who we recently saw at the cinema in Diabolik – Who are you?she felt very close Maria Callas in the commitment he dedicated to her: “A pioneer offemale independence. She wanted a divorce at a time when divorce was not an option. She faced life with her heart. It all adds up: we find ourselves in a historical moment in which women, in society, are less afraid of their own voice, and they fight with their teeth. I will miss Callas as a child. “And speaking of children, Bellucci knows for sure what she would have done if she had not chosen her career as a model and actress:”Children are very dear to me. After law school I would probably have dealt with children’s problems.”
