Dwayne Johnson is giving his all for The Smashing Machine, the new A24 film directed by the acclaimed director Benny Safdie and coming out soon, to the point that one star of the cast is convinced that the legendary The Rock it could even point to Oscar Prize.
In the movie Dwayne Johnson will play Mark Kerrtwo-time UFC heavyweight champion, for what will be a true sports biopic: on his side The Rock will have the cinematic quality of one half of the Safdie brothers, who with their last film Rough Diamonds had led Adam Sandler to come close the nomination for best actor at the Oscars, and of course the strength of the A24 production company, which will certainly focus heavily on The Smashing Machine during awards season.
Indeed, upon closer inspection, the promotional phase seems to have already begun, given that in a new interview with Collider Dana White, president and CEO of the UFC, revealed that The Smashing Machine has the potential to push Dwayne Johnson towards an Oscar: “I don’t know if you saw it, but the other day he showed on Instagram that he injured his elbow during filming. The Rock is giving it his all, literally. He will make a splash with this role. I know how seriously he is taking this, I know who is working with him on this film and I know what the ambitions of the project are. I think this could be it the Rock’s chance to actually be nominated for an Oscar.”
We remember that in recent days Emily Blunt also joined the cast of The Smashing Machine: it will be the star’s second film with The Rock after Jungle Cruise.
