Antonella Clerici underwent emergency surgery due to complications, most likely a tumor (a logical deduction also considering the hospital in which she was operated on, the Regina Elena Cancer Institute in Rome), an ovarian cyst. A “tsunami” was unleashed from a simple routine check, as Clerici herself has defined the last few days. Since last Thursday her life has changed and after “resonance imaging, hospitalization, operation” her ovaries were removed.
In the post, complete with photos from the hospital bed, she thanked all the doctors who have been close to her in recent days and who operated on her. Thanks in particular to Adriana Bonifacino, director of Clinical Senology at the IDI-IRCCS, IDI Istituto Dermopatico dell’Immacolata, in Rome. Bonifacino, Antonella wrote, “she was always at my side with sweetness, firmness, competence and affection”. And the doctor wanted to thank her for these words.
“Thank you Antonella for this post of yours. Believing in prevention and practicing it is the best thing for ourselves to love ourselves more. Prevention is the most powerful weapon we have at our disposal and even among many difficulties we manage to maintain a very efficient NHS with professionals extraordinary and of a high professional profile. Thank you very much because we often cannot reach people’s hearts”, wrote Dr. Bonifacino. Clerici simply reiterated her gratitude by writing, instead, “Thank you Adri, for everything.”

Precisely after the manager’s response, a user expressed her doubt: “With an ordinary person it wouldn’t have gone so quickly and that’s it.” And to these words Bonifacino wanted to give a concrete response: “As far as I’m concerned it’s not like that. I’ve been working for 45 years and I can assure you that there is a lot of good healthcare. I have admitted the difficulties. But I have always worked in hospitals and environments public for 44 years. Antonella speaks about it and speaks to the hearts of many others and certainly not for me. We are there.”
